James Owusu-Ansah

James Owusu-Ansah is my name. I whole-heartedly thank ARIPO and KNUST for giving me this great opportunity through a scholarship to enrich my knowledge in Intellectual property. I have previously had WIPO sponsorship for study visit in the Republic of South Korea in the area of International legal framework in the field of copyright. However this MIP program has brought me a new experience and exposure in the emerging areas of IP such as, Artificial intelligence, cyber space, biotechnology etc. Notwithstanding, for the first time in my IP studies  I had the privilege of having a lecturer cum inventor whose invention’’Tek harvester’’ served as Teaching and learning material at both class and field trip for a better understanding especially scientific calculation in Technological invention of machinery and as a substitute for physical labour. Although I have been at the copyright office under ministry of justice in Ghana  for a decade as a researcher and expert in the areas  of copyright registration, education, infringement settlement,  research and development, it is through this MIP program that has enable me to now speak and understand the  language of intellectual property.

Indeed this MIP program has come at a time when IP is gradually permeating into the mainstream of Ghana’s developmental agenda with the launch of National Intellectual Property Policy Strategy and the copyright office through the Swiss government undertaking contribution of copyright based industries to Ghana’s Economy. As the course president and a product of university of Ghana seeking the growth of IP in Ghana, I wish the program the best of success.
